Thomas on Spirituality
My spirituality is very strong within me. Dance brings that out of me. I suppose I could do it in other forms but I have been given this opportunity to offer through this creative art something of myself.
Thomas's Story
I became a dancer after I retired from the foreign service. I was 54 years old. My reason for becoming a dancer was because of watching the seniors performing on the stage in front of children and how amazed they were to see seniors moving in a way they never expected to see people like their grandparents.
I thought that men should not be stereotyped on age into thinking that when they retire they just sit and be the great grandparent and that whole schmeer. So I believed that I could be a role model for men..
It was completely alien to me to think of myself as a modern dancer or perform on the stage. It still amazes me that I'm doing what I'm doing. |
