Bea's Story
My husband died when I was 59. I had been a traditional stay-at-home mother. housewife for 40 years. I really truly felt that my life was over. I didn't know what I could do to make getting up in the morning worthwhile.
I had wonderful support. My children were just great. I just knew I had to find a new way to greet each day with enthusiasm.
And then one day someone suggested I should look into this company of older dancers. Well, the very first time, not knowing what to expect, there was this young dancer who introduced himself.
He said now, Bea, I'm going to take my hand and I'm going to run it across your tummy and then I'm going to lift you, and I want you to wrap your legs-- And I don't believe what I'm hearing, but I'm doing this. And that was my very first lift with this young man. Once I really started dancing with the company, it just broadened my horizons tremendously.
For me it's been like having two lives in one lifetime because it was so totally different from being a stay-at-home housewife. |
