Severino dos Santos was born on June, 1910, in São Paulo, Brazil. His father was a sergeant in the Civil Guard and his mother was a housewife.
His testimony about his family is very interesting:
"I was the firstborn. Then came the others: Idalina, Arlindo, Alcides, Flora, Jacy, Jair, but before that, there was... little Mari... Mariquinha passed... passed away in 1920... 1922... she was very young. "
"I have very pleasant memories. I was... I was a kid... I was a good kid. I remember... where I lived as a child (...). Well, I used to play soccer there, with rolled-up socks for balls. I played... I used to fish, when I was very young... the Tiete River was nearby... "
